Sara Gane on fire at NZ Juniors
Sara Gane of the Blenheim Swim Club was on fire at the NZ Juniors Swim Meet, taking home gold in the 50, 100 and 200m breaststroke events for 12 year old girls.
Sara made huge improvements on her times, taking 1.7 seconds off her previous best in the 50m, a massive 4 sec in the 100m and 5 sec off her 200m time. If confirmed, Sara's times in all three breaststroke events will break SNM records for 12 yr olds held by former Olympic swimmer Annabelle Carey.
Sara also finished 6th in the 200 Individual Medley and 8th in the 100m free.
Matai McGuinnety of Nelson South won 4th place in the 50 Free for 10 & Under boys and 7th in the 50 Back, slicing 2 sec off his PB for both events. His 50 back time, if confirmed, will be a new SNM record.
Pip Dwyer of Motueka also put in a fine performance in the 200 breast for 12 year old girls, finishing 5th and taking 3.5 sec off her personal best.
The girls 200m medley relay (Samantha Trevurza, Sara Gane, Oriana Houra and Merekara McGuinnety) did Nelson-Marlborough proud, placing 5th, just 0.18 seconds behind Canterbury West Coast.
Most SNM swimmers swam PBs in their events, with some outstanding effots. Georgina Trengrove must have been studying Sara Gane carefully, as Georgie took an amazing 5.83 sec off her 100m breaststroke time.
Matthew Fritz took 5.85sec off his 200m free time, and Pip Dwyer 2.5 sec in the same event. Claire Ballance and Georgina Trengrove each took 1.4 sec off their 50m free times and Clara Foster did the same in the 100 breast.
The meet was held simultaneously in Christchurch and Auckland.
