Standout 13-year-old swimmer Sara Gane of Blenheim evened the score last night at the National Short Course Age Group Championships in Wellington, grabbing gold in the 200 m breaststroke for 13-year-old girls in 2:42.52. Her time was just 0.02 sec faster than rival Millie MacDonald of Auckland, who the day before won the 100 m breaststroke with Gane taking the silver.
Ellie Rukuwai of Nelson South Swimming Club secured 4th place in the 100m individual medley and 5th in the 100m breaststroke for 13-year-old girls. Rukuwai also made the finals in the 50m breaststroke.
Nelson South teammates Grace Woodall, Skye Eden and Lydia Mossman joined Rukuwai in the 4x50m medley relay for 15 years and under, finishing an impressive 6th against top clubs from Auckland, North Shore, Wellington and Christchurch.
Other Nelson-Marlborough swimmers competing are Eddie Neill and William Borrell from Nelson Swimming Club, Ryan Cheyne of Nelson South, and Nick Kerry and Toby Lloyd of Blenheim Swimming Club.
