Sam McKenzie named Junior Sportsman of the Year
Sam McKenzie was named Sport Tasman Junior Sportsman of the Year at the Nelson Sports Awards on Friday 28 November 2015, in recognition of his outstanding year representing Tasman Swim Club.
A student at Waimea College, McKenzie won both the Belsham Trophy for the swim of the year and the Wendy Fryer Cup for swimmer of the year at this year's Swimming Nelson Marlborough awards. He also broke the New Zealand record for the 100m freestyle and won a gold medal representing his country at the Australian age group championships while collecting many national medals and regional medals and records.
At this year's Swimming Nelson Marlborough winter champs, McKenzie broke eight meet records and had the highest points for males of any age group.
