Sierra Thomas of the Tasman Swim Club has been named Nelson Marlborough's "Swimmer of the Year" and winner of the Wendy Fryer Cup. The trophy is based on placings at national and regional meets and on records set, for the period 1 July to 30 June.
Among her top accomplishments, Sierra won gold in the 800m Freestyle at the NZ Short Course Champs, silver in the 5000m and bronze in the 10,000m at the NZ Open Water Champs, and silver in both the 400m and 800m freestyle at the NZ Age Group Championships.
