    Brent Cheyne of Nelson South was recognised with an Honours award for his service as SNM Treasurer, past Chair and board member for many years.

  • McKenzie and Gane lead team of 18 at NAGs
    Sam McKenzie (13), of Nelson Swimming Club, won the 50m freestyle to capture his second gold medal at the National Age Group championships in Wellington, having won the 100m freestyle the day before.

  • Waimea leads SNM to South Island trophy
    Thirty-two swimmers from the Blenheim, Motueka, Nelson, Nelson South and Waimea swimming clubs beat all other South Island regions for points per swimmer at the South Island Country and Town Competition in Timaru last weekend.

    Eleven-year-old Daniel Trevurza of Motueka shaved an impressive 2.4 seconds off his time and finished 4th in New Zealand in the 50m breastroke at the NZ Junior Championships held last weekend in Wellington.

  • Rukuwai top swimmer at regional champs
    Ellie Rukuwai (15) of Nelson South won the coveted Marie Saul Cup for Best All-Round Swimmer, collecting four golds, four silvers and three bronze medals while leading Nelson South to a sweep of the club trophies at the annual Swimming Nelson Marlborough Age Group Championships at ASB Aquatic Centre in Richmond.

    Sam McKenzie of Nelson won five gold medals in freestyle and butterfly events while Nelson-Marlborough girls dominated the breaststroke events at the Wellington long course summer championships held recently.

  • Record rampage at Nationals
    Twelve Nelson-Marlborough open records and 32 age group records were broken at the New Zealand Short Course Championships this week in Wellington, in the biggest assault on the regional record book in recent memory.
    Kaiori McGuinniety of Nelson South Swimming Club led the record-breaking rampage with 13 new records.

  • Double gold for Gane at Nationals
    Blenheim's standout swimmer Sara Gane has continued her dominance in the breaststroke in the 14-year-old age group, claiming gold in both the 50m and 200m events at the New Zealand Short Course Championships being held in Wellington. Gane sliced 2.73 seconds off her personal best in the 200m event, finishing 2.5 seconds ahead of her nearest rival. Gane will get a chance to sweep the breaststroke events when she competes in the 100m race on Thursday.

  • South Island meets coming to Nelson-Marlborough
    Swimming Nelson-Marlborough has been confirmed as the host for two South Island swimming meets to be held next winter. The SI Secondary Schools meet and the SI Champs will both be run at the new Stadium 2000 facility in Blenheim.

  • Sara Gane is Swimmer of the Year 2011-12
    At the start of this year's Winter Meet, Sara Gane picked up an engraved cup for winning, for the third year in a row, the Belsham Trophy as the region’s top swimmer.

    The prize is won by the swimmer who comes closest to the winning time in an event at the NZ Open Championships, at which New Zealand’s Olympic athletes compete. Sara first won the trophy in 2009-10 as a 12-year-old.

  • Big splash at Winter Meet
    Toby Lloyd (14) of Blenheim Swimming Club was the best overall boy at the annual Swimming Nelson Marlborough Winter Meet, held over the weekend at Stadium 2000 in Blenheim. Ten-year-old Cassandra Hagan of Nelson Swimming Club won the cup for best overall girl for most points, while Nelson South Swimming Club again captured the team title.
