  • Sara Gane is Swimmer of the Year 2011-12
    At the start of this year's Winter Meet, Sara Gane picked up an engraved cup for winning, for the third year in a row, the Belsham Trophy as the region’s top swimmer.

    The prize is won by the swimmer who comes closest to the winning time in an event at the NZ Open Championships, at which New Zealand’s Olympic athletes compete. Sara first won the trophy in 2009-10 as a 12-year-old.

  • Big splash at Winter Meet
    Toby Lloyd (14) of Blenheim Swimming Club was the best overall boy at the annual Swimming Nelson Marlborough Winter Meet, held over the weekend at Stadium 2000 in Blenheim. Ten-year-old Cassandra Hagan of Nelson Swimming Club won the cup for best overall girl for most points, while Nelson South Swimming Club again captured the team title.

  • Gane wins gold at NAGs
    Blenheim swimmer Sara Gane is a NZ Age Group champion for 2012, dominating the 200m breaststroke in the 12-13 year old age group. Gane won the event with a time of 2:45:90, nearly 2 full seconds ahead of the 2nd place finisher, with the bronze medalist a further 2 secs back. Gane also captured the silver medal in the 100m breastroke and bronze in the 50m breaststroke.

  • Sam McKenzie of the Nelson Swimming Club won the gold medal in the 50 metre freestyle for 12-year-old boys at the Junior National swimming meet held in Wellington this weekend.
    McKenzie’s time of 28.33 sec beat his own personal best by 1.26 seconds and set a new Nelson-Marlborough record for 12-year-olds.

    Grace Woodall of Nelson South set two new Swimming Nelson Marlborough open records (i.e. swimmers of any age) in the Women's 100m and 200m backstroke, and a record for 16-yr-olds in the 800m free, and 16 other regional records fell as swimmers take advantage of the fast new pool in Blenheim.
